Postdoc in regional to global cycling of atmospheric O2 and CO2

We invite qualified applicants to apply for a postdoctoral scholar
position within the lab of Professor Ralph Keeling at the Scripps
Institution of Oceanography (SIO), to conduct research on atmospheric O2
and CO2 cycling. The position focuses on the interpretation of
high-resolution time series of atmospheric O2 and CO2 to produce new
insights into regional- to global-scale cycling of O2 and CO2. The
successful applicant will participate in a Schmidt Ocean Sciences
Virtual Institute, InMOS (Integration of Models and Observations Across
Scales), an international team spanning eleven institutions, focused on
producing new syntheses of the ocean storage and cycling of carbon,
oxygen, and heat. Important goals of the project include developing
modeling tools for determining regional air-sea fluxes of O2 and CO2
from high resolution atmospheric timeseries and using these flux
estimates to improve understanding of ocean biogeochemical processes.
The project includes a particular focus on interpreting new measurements
to be conducted at Cape Point South Africa. The position will be based
at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography with the possibility of
travel occasionally to South Africa to assist with field support.

Candidates must have a PhD in earth sciences, physics, math, or a
closely related discipline, or equivalent experience, have experience
with computing, data analysis, and with working with observational data.
The ideal candidate would have experience and knowledge of marine
biogeochemistry, atmospheric tracer modeling, and geochemical or
geophysical measurement techniques. The candidate is expected to work
closely with members of the Keeling lab who bring skills in atmospheric
measurements and modeling, with other InMOS team members who bring in
skills ocean modeling and observations. Candidates are required to have
completed a Ph.D. prior to starting the appointment.

The fulltime, onsite position is in La Jolla, CA and is now open, and
includes a minimum stipend of $69,209 plus benefits (higher for
applicants with postdoc experience). The position is a full-time
appointment for one year, with the potential for renewal up to 4 years.
Appointment durations vary depending on the length of the research
project. Total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not
exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at other institutions.
Appointees are eligible to participate in the University of California
Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Please
e-mail a curriculum vitae with publications list, a statement of
research interests and contact information for two references to Eric

UC San Diego is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer and
welcomes all qualified applicants. Applicants will receive fair and
impartial consideration without regard to race, sex, color, religion,
national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic data, or other
legally protected status.
