The *Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences* at the
department of geosciences of the University Frankfurt offers the
permanent position of a

*Research Assistant (m/f/d)*

*(PostDoc)*

*(E 13 TV-G-U)***

The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective
agreements applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

*Your Task*

The successful candidate will be involved in research and teaching. The
research activity will focus on the continuation and improvement of
long-term measurement series of halogenated hydrocarbons, non-methane
hydrocarbons and greenhouse gases at the Taunus Observatory situated on
the Kleiner Feldberg near Frankfurt and airborne measurements within the
CARIBIC project. These measurements at Taunus Observatory are
incorporated in the international AGAGE network for atmospheric
observations and are part of the European infrastructure ACTRIS. The
successful candidate will take care of instrumentation (gas
chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, as well as optical
spectrometry), quality control of the measurements, identification of
new substances and the use of these measurements to identify trends and
ongoing emissions of halocarbons in Europe. The successful candidate
will improve and further automate these analytical techniques. An active
participation in further research cooperations, e.g. with the DFG funded
priority programme on HALO or with the DFG funded collaborative research
centre TPChange are expected. The teaching obligations include the
organisation and supervision of practical courses and self-determined
lectures with a total teaching obligation of 8 hours per week. The
candidate is also expected to take over the role of radiation safety
officer. Self-determined research and further qualification (e.g. German
“Habilitation”) are also possible and are encouraged.

*Your Profile*

A degree in natural sciences (e.g. meteorology, physics, chemistry or
environmental sciences) and a Ph.D. in one of these fields as well as
proven experience in teaching is necessary. Experience in the
measurement of atmospheric trace gases using GC/MS and in automated data
processing and interpretation of atmospheric measurements is required
and should be proven by relevant publications. Knowledge in the
programming (python, Labview) and in the software package GCWerks are
required. We expect a profound knowledge of the English language in
writing and speaking. For non-German speakers the willingness to learn
German is expected. We offer a flexible and international working
environment with flat hierarchy and good individual development
opportunities.
