Saide, Pablo saide at atmos.ucla.edu
Thu Mar 7 11:44:56 MST 2024

The UCLA’s department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (https://www.atmos.ucla.edu/) seeks two postdoctoral scholars to lead and support activities on multiple projects within Prof. Pablo Saide research lab. These include:

  * Investigating wildfire drivers and impacts on air pollution in a changing climate using remote sensing and models.
  * Advance modeling of wildfire smoke by tackling multiple sources of model uncertainty, including smoke emissions, vertical distribution, and aging of chemical and optical properties.
  * Assess the impact of aerosol-driven changes in direct and indirect forcing of climate due to changes of shipping emissions and volcanic degassing.
  * Post-campaign analysis of ASIA-AQ, a NASA field program to improve understanding of the factors controlling local air quality across Asia through multi-perspective observations and modeling.
  * Improving atmospheric composition models by using Lidar derived boundary layer properties

Desired qualifications include a Ph.D. in atmospheric science, physics, engineering, or a related field, strong quantitative and programming skills, experience on running and/or developing air quality, atmospheric composition, coupled aerosol-climate, and/or fire spread models, be familiar with model evaluation using various observational datasets, and strong scientific writing skills.

Applicants should send a CV with a cover letter, contact information for three references, and one-page summary of recent work and interests as a single PDF document to Prof. Pablo Saide saide at atmos.ucla.edu<mailto:saide at atmos.ucla.edu>. The appointments are for two years, renewable for up to three years pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
