Postdoctoral Position in Atmospheric and Climate Dynamics at UCLA

UCLA Dept. of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences seeks a postdoctoral scholar in Atmospheric and Climate Dynamics, supervised by Prof. Gang Chen. The position will be in the area of large-scale atmospheric dynamics and climate. The goal of the project is to understand atmospheric processes responsible for changes in midlatitude circulation and weather extremes (e.g., blocking, atmospheric rivers, cold snaps, and heat waves) in a changing climate, including the internal atmospheric variability, the response to tropical and Arctic forcings, or the role of the stratosphere in the unforced and forced variability. The research activities will involve a combination of observations, theory, and/or idealized and comprehensive modeling. The appointments are for two years, renewable for up to three years pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences or a related field, effective oral and written communication skills, and strong programming and analytical skills. Applicants should submit a complete CV, including a list of refereed publications and contact information for three references. These materials should be addressed to Prof Gang Chen gchenpu at atmos.ucla.edu<mailto:gchenpu at atmos.ucla.edu>.
