The University of Oklahoma seeks a Research Scientist to join the School of Geosciences in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy in summer 2024. This position will support an industry-university partnership to characterize and analyze high salinity brines using Raman spectroscopy. The Research Scientist will work collaboratively with the Dr. Megan Elwood Madden to do the following: manage the project, analyze industrial brine samples and spectra, interpret the results, improve analytical methods, and communicate the results in written reports and presentations to industry partners. This full-time, benefits eligible position is funded by a 1-year grant, with the possibility of renewal if the work is successful at meeting industry goals. The analytical work (~50%) must be completed in person, however a hybrid work schedule may be considered.

Required Qualifications:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in science or engineering before the position’s start date.
• Experience with analytical chemistry and/or spectroscopic methods
• Ability to work independently, as well as in collaboration with other members of a team
• Strong writing, organization, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated success in data management

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams on collaborative projects
• Experience creating and testing new analytical methods
• Experience using Raman Spectroscopy
• Knowledge of Aqueous Geochemistry, particularly high salinity systems
• Demonstrated project management skills
• Experience applying statistical methods to demonstrate quality control
