The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications
for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climate Dynamics. The successful candidate will design
and analyze innovative global climate model experiments to study the role of the large-scale
atmospheric circulation in future climate change, focusing on the atmospheric circulation’s impact
on either regional hydroclimate or global cloud feedbacks.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science/meteorology,
computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline is required by the
appointment start date. The candidate must be proficient in programming in Python,
Matlab, or a similar language. The most qualified applicants will have: 1) prior experience
working with large gridded atmospheric science datasets (reanalyses and/or global climate
model output); 2) prior research experience working with the large-scale atmospheric circulation,
regional hydroclimate, and/or global cloud feedbacks; and 3) excellent written and oral
communication skills. Previous experience running global climate model experiments,
particularly with the Community Earth System Model (CESM), is highly desired.
