Dear all,

I have an open position to join my group at the University of Arkansas for a postdoc to help improve our understanding of soil biogeochemistry and/or GHG dynamics in rice production systems for sustainability solutions. Please share widely!

We have a wonderful group, lots of cool collaborators, and this part of Arkansas is an extraordinary place to live with excellent amenities and a low cost of living.

Summary of Job Duties:
The Post-Doctoral Fellow's job duties will contribute to a funded research and technical assistance project on measuring environmental outcomes of different rice production practices. Activities can include a mix of investigations of soil impacts on grain arsenic dynamics and/or on greenhouse gas (CH4) emissions in rice production fields to resolve uncertainties related to the impacts of different climate-smart management strategies from differing clay and soil organic matter conditions. This position will manage day-to-day data collection tasks, coordinate involvement between project participants, and will create papers and outreach materials based on the project findings. Field visits may be conducted in irrigated and non-irrigated agricultural fields in Arkansas and other states. The project will investigate the impacts of land cover and management practices on biophysical properties, carbon uptake, and greenhouse gas emissions, and may involve novel tools and instrumentation.

The Post-Doctoral fellow will interface with scientists from a number of institutions and disciplines. The ultimate aim is to advance scientific understanding and improve NRCS technical assistance programs through measurements and the production of scientific and science outreach materials. Other funded projects in the Runkle group could also support adjacent activities in soil-arsenic research or climate smart commodity and sustainability development.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

  * Ph.D. in disciplines such as biological, biosystems, ecological or environmental engineering, ecology, environmental science, geography, geosciences, or a closely related field conferred by the start of employment
  * Demonstrated experience (research presentations, thesis, or publications) with chamber flux techniques, high frequency micrometeorological datasets, remote sensing of landscape processes, or modeling of biogeochemical processes
  * Computer skills with python, R, Matlab, or a related language
Preferred Qualifications:

  * Good scientific communication skills as evidenced by recent publications and/or presentations at conferences
  * Willingness to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  * Demonstrated experience with environmental data management

Additional Information:
This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.

Salary Information:
$52,000
