Post-doctoral Research Associate Position in Climate Change
Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Miami
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Miami has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate in the general area of climate change, with a focus on improving our understanding of the coupled response of the hydrological cycle, radiative feedbacks, and the large-scale atmospheric and oceanic circulation. Our research group uses satellite data sets and in situ observations along with coupled ocean-atmosphere models to diagnose and improve our understanding of key radiative and hydrologic processes. A successful candidate will conduct original research, write manuscripts for publication, participate in professional meetings, and collaborate with faculty and graduate students at the University of Miami, Princeton University, and other institutions. The position will also encourage candidates to develop and pursue their own areas of research interest.
Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Oceanography, or a relted field, a strong mathematics and physics background, excellent writing and speaking skills, and strong programming abilities. Experience analyzing large satellite data sets and/or model simulations is also desirable. The position can start immediately, though the starting date is negotiable based on mutual interest. The initial appointment will be for one year and renewable dependent on performance and availability of funding for two additional years.
Salary is competitive based on experience and qualifications. The University of Miami offers competitive benefits. The position is open until filled and full consideration will be given to applications received by Oct 1, 2024. Questions regarding the position can be addressed to Prof. Brian Soden (b.soden at miami.edu).
