NC State is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor in synoptic
meteorology:
The Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) at North
Carolina State University (NC State) seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant
professor with expertise in synoptic meteorology.
Desirable research areas include all aspects of weather systems: their
prediction, dynamics, and impacts.
The successful applicant will teach a senior-level course in NC State’s
undergraduate Atmospheric Science program: Synoptic Weather Analysis and
Forecasting. Additional course offerings may include undergraduate and
graduate classes in numerical weather forecasting, dynamics of synoptic
weather systems, data assimilation, and meteorological applications of
machine learning and artificial intelligence, as well as other applied or
theoretical classes commensurate with the candidate’s interests and
expertise. The College of Sciences and MEAS places a high value on
excellent instruction and the use of research-validated teaching methods.
Applicants are expected to develop a cutting-edge and rigorous externally
funded research program. Opportunities exist for disciplinary and
interdisciplinary interactions with a wide range of scientists at NC State.
Applications are encouraged from candidates who apply modern data analytics
and statistical approaches, which could include machine learning,
artificial intelligence, and data assimilation, to the prediction and
analysis of weather. We welcome applications from candidates with
operational and application backgrounds, as well as from those with
academic research experience.
