The Swenson College of Science and Engineering <https://scse.d.umn.edu> at
the University of Minnesota Duluth <http://d.umn.edu> is seeking
applications for Director of the Large Lakes Observatory
<https://scse.d.umn.edu/large-lakes-observatory>.

The LLO is the only institution in the world dedicated to
oceanographic-style research on large lakes globally, with current research
campaigns in lakes in North and South America, Asia, East Africa, and
coastal ocean environments and ancient aquatic systems worldwide. LLO is a
dynamic and collaborative research center with strong research programs in
paleolimnology, aquatic ecology, geochemistry, lake physics, and aquatic
biogeochemistry. We work closely with researchers at a variety of
institutes in the Duluth, MN and greater MN/WI region, including the Duluth
EPA, Natural Resources Research Institute, the Lake Superior NERR, the St
Anthony Falls Laboratory, the Continental Scientific Drilling Facility, and
Minnesota SeaGrant. We manage the only UNOLS vessel in the Laurentian Great
Lakes: the R/V Blue Heron
<https://scse.d.umn.edu/large-lakes-observatory/vessels-facilities/blue-heron>
.

We are seeking a leader-researcher with strong skills in community
building, development, and outreach, a vision of where to lead LLO in the
next decade, and a strong externally-funded research program of their own
in limnology, oceanography, or a closely related field.

UMD's values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential to
achieving excellence. We are especially interested in recruiting and
retaining a diverse faculty to maintain the excellence of the Department,
College, and University, and to offer students interdisciplinary
perspectives and varied ways of knowing and learning. Duluth, MN, the home
of LLO, is a mid-sized city located on the beautiful western shore of Lake
Superior with hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, skiing, and running
trails within city limits along with numerous breweries, beaches, parks,
restaurants, and cultural activities.

For more information and to apply, go to

in Duluth can be directed to me (kschrein at d.umn.edu) or to the search
chair, Liz Minor (eminor at d.umn.edu).
