Postdoctoral Researcher at McGill University

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in the field of Physical Meteorology/Climate Dynamics in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Project description
This project aims to elucidate the roles of the atmospheric water vapor in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) region in climate change and extreme weather. The successful candidate will analyze the UTLS water vapor variation in relation to surface weather and climate in the observations and the state-of-the-art Canadian seasonal forecast system, and will assess the impacts of UTLS water vapor on regional and global climate using numerical experiments.

Required qualifications
A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, or a related discipline within the past 3 years is required. The candidate is expected to have the ability to conduct original and independent scientific research, the familiarity with global weather/climate model, reanalysis and satellite datasets, and programming skills in Fortran, Matlab or Python on Linux systems.

Salary and benefits
$60,000CAD/year

Expected start date
January 1, 2024 (flexible)

Term
One year, renewable up to one more year
