The Department Head is the administrative and academic leader of the 
Department of 
GeoscienceswithintheWarnerCollegeofNaturalResources.TheDepartmentHeadisprimarily 
responsible for leadership and administration of teaching, research, 
extension, and service 
activitiesofdepartmentalpersonnel.Thisisafull-time,12-monthappointment(comprisedofa 
9-month tenured position with an administrative stipend).

Description of Work Unit

Geosciences is one of five academic departments in the Warner College of 
Natural Resources. The other departments are: Forest and Rangeland 
Stewardship; Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology; Ecosystem Science 
and Sustainability; and Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. General

The Department has 16 tenure-track and one full-time Master Instructor 
faculty. Faculty expertise spans Earth surface processes, isotope 
geochemistry, sedimentology, mineral deposits, solid Earth and applied 
geophysics, structural geology, tectonics, geodynamics, hydrogeology, 
paleoclimatology, glaciology and petrology. The Department offers a B.S. 
undergraduate major in Geology, with concentrations in geology, 
hydrogeology, geophysics, environmental geology, and M.S. and Ph.D. 
degrees in Geosciences. The Department currently has approximately 100 
undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students.

*Mission: *The mission of the Department of Geosciences is to achieve 
excellence in teaching, research, service, and outreach. Our curriculum 
prepares students for careers in geosciences, including basic and 
applied research, and the management of geological resources, hence 
providing a comprehensive approach to the study of geosciences. 
Research, service, and outreach activities emphasize physical and 
chemical processes affecting Earth’s interior and surface, as well as 
human intervention to solve environmental and resource management problems.

Colorado State University is a land grant university with about 33,000 
students located in Fort Collins, Colorado (population ~175,000). Fort 
Collins residents enjoy a high quality of life, a regionally moderate 
cost of living, and the city is often rated as one of the best places to 
live in the United States. The city has numerous bike paths, a vibrant 
downtown, and is adjacent to the Rocky Mountains with easy access to 
many outdoor activities. Fort Collins is approximately 1-hour north of 
metropolitan Denver and the Denver International Airport.

Required Job Qualifications

  * Earned doctorate in Geosciences, Earth Systems or a closely related
    field.
  * 6+ years of experience with education, research, outreach, and
    academic accomplishments.
  * Academic administrative experience.
  * Academic accomplishments that meet the requirements for a tenured
    full professor.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  * Demonstrated success in administrative duties, budgeting, and
    programmatic development and growth.
  * Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills in communicating
    with and mentoring faculty, staff, and students.
  * Demonstrated success in creating and fostering community and
    collaborative environments, creative initiative and problem solving,
    and conflict resolution efforts.
  * Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary
    leadership team.
  * Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion through research,
    teaching and outreach with relevant programs, goals, and activities.
  * A record of success in working collaboratively with government,
    tribal management agencies, the private sector, and other scientific
    organizations.
  * A record of scholarly contributions to knowledge in geosciences and
    demonstrated expertise in this field.
  * A record of excellence in teaching and mentoring at the
    undergraduate and graduate level in a Geosciences program.
  * Experience conducting development activities and a willingness to
    lead Departmental development efforts.
