We are looking to recruit a scientific editor (at the senior level) to join the in-house editorial team of Cell Reports Sustainability, a new gold open access journal from Cell Press. The journal will publish high-quality research and discussion that contribute to understanding and responding to environmental, social-ecological, technological, and energy- and health-related challenges. Successful candidates will be involved in all editorial aspects of the journal and work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and other editorial team members. Responsibilities will include:
• Managing the assessment of submitted papers to ensure they meet Cell Reports Sustainability’s criteria for reporting robust research.
• Commissioning insightful reviews and timely commentaries.
• Establishing strong relationships with and credibility among global academic and non-academic communities.
• Contributing to and implementing strategies that ensure Cell Reports Sustainability continues to meet the needs of various sustainability-relevant communities.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in the natural or social sciences with a focus on one of the following areas: a) technical, material, economic, or policy-related aspects of renewable energy, and b) food systems/agriculture, ecology, or biodiversity. In addition, they will have:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Interest in a broad range of sustainability-relevant topics and scientific publishing. Critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research. The ability to work both independently and in diverse teams.

This is a full-time in-house editorial position. Cell Press offers an attractive salary and benefits package and a stimulating working environment. Applications, which will be held in the strictest confidence, should be submitted no later than Friday April 28th.

To apply, please submit a resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in the position.

The preferred locations for these positions are our offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Cambridge MA, USA, and London or Oxford, UK.

Cell Reports Sustainability values having a diverse editorial team, and applications from groups currently under-represented in science are warmly welcomed.
