The Department of Geological Sciences<https://geology.nmsu.edu/> at New Mexico State University invites applications for a 9-month Tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 14, 2023. We seek a geoscientist to fulfill our curricular needs in physical geology, mineralogy, optical mineralogy, and petrology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. New Mexico State University is located in the southern Rio Grande rift, with ample and easy access to many geologic phenomena. Our department is committed to excellence in field- and lab-based research and education, much of which is focused on tectonic systems of the Southwestern U.S. The successful candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program in mineralogy, petrology, and/or related foci. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.

The department offers programs leading to the BS and MS degrees and is staffed with N=5 research-active faculty (https://geology.nmsu.edu/<about:blank>). New Mexico State University is a Land Grant, NASA Space Grant, Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive, and Hispanic-Serving Institution. We encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented groups and from individuals interested in working with underrepresented students.
