The Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, Denmark invites applications for a position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in Petrology. We seek an innovative and visionary geoscientist trained in petrology. Expertise in one or more of the following fields is preferred: metamorphic petrology, ore petrology, mineralogy. We are looking for applicants complementing the existing expertise at the Department in e.g. magmatic petrology, geochemistry, geophysics, sedimentology and computational geoscience.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant natural science discipline, have a strong international research standing and a broad multidisciplinary research network. The scientific profile must be reflected in relevant publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Proven ability to attract external research funding and documented teaching skills are required. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous research program involving graduate and undergraduate students, attract funding from national and/or international sources and expand the national and international research profile of the Department. The appointee will teach courses at the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels in their field of expertise and related subjects.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the potential to be a strong role model for the values of equality, diversity and inclusion. It is expected that the appointee will acquire, within three years, proficiency in Danish sufficient for teaching in bachelor programs and for participation in departmental and university administration.
Department of Geoscience
The Department of Geoscience<https://geo.au.dk/en/> currently employs about 110 staff including faculty, externally funded researchers, post-docs, Ph.D. students, and administrative and technical personnel. We have a strong research profile spanning a broad range of geological and geophysical disciplines, including basic and applied aspects of the Earth surface systems (hydrogeology, hydrogeophysics, Quaternary studies, palaeoceanography, sedimentology, stratigraphy, geochronology, organic petrology) as well as the deep interior of the Earth (petrology, geochemistry, solid-earth geophysics, structural geology, basin modelling). The Department is well equipped for petrological research and teaching including geochemical facilities (ICPMS, MC-ICPMS, Laser ablation, class 100 metal-free cleanlab, SEM, micro-XRF, XRD). We also host a national infrastructure pool of ocean bottom and land seismic stations (DanSeis).

Natural Sciences Tenure Track

Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of six years with the prospect of performance- based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship position.
The aim of the Natural Sciences Tenure Track Programme is to:
* attract outstanding talented individuals that are competitive at an international level
* to promote the early development of independent research success early in the career of scientists
* to create transparency in the academic career path
As part of the tenure track position, the candidate is offered:
* access to research infrastructure
* capability development, including postgraduate teacher training
* a mentoring programme
* support to develop scientific networks and to secure interdisciplinary research at the highest level
As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University. In exceptional cases, Aarhus University can offer particularly talented Associate Professors to be admitted to a promotion program to Professor without an open advertisement. To be nominated for the promotion program, the Associate Professor must be assessed within a few years of focused career advancement as able to obtain qualifications corresponding to a professorship appointment in an open call.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive their assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
