The Air Quality Program<https://ecology.wa.gov/Air-Climate> (AQP) within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill two Quality Assurance Specialist (Environmental Specialist 4) (In-Training) <https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/washington/jobs/3883314/quality-assurance-specialist-environmental-specialist-4-in-training-two-posi> positions. These positions are located in our Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA.<http://www.ci.lacey.wa.us/> Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

As a part of the Quality Assurance Team, you will ensure the accuracy and reliability of ambient air pollution monitoring systems and data. These ambient air monitors help the Air Quality Program measure and track air pollution in order to prevent and reduce its impacts throughout the State of Washington. You and your team will support the program's efforts to provide real-time air quality information for the protection of public health, forecast air quality, evaluate the effectiveness of air pollution control programs, and evaluate the effects of air pollution on public health.
Note: This position offers a career path and on-the-job training. This position allows you to progress through the Environmental Specialist (ES) field and achieve the goal class of an ES4. Candidates will be considered at the ES3 and ES4 levels, depending on their qualifications. For salary levels for each, please see the qualifications section.

The mission of the Air Quality Program<http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/airhome.html> (AQP) is to protect and improve air quality in Washington and to protect our State's environment for current and future generations. In 2021, Washington's Legislature passed the landmark Climate Commitment Act (CCA) - a sweeping piece of legislation that will track and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and criteria air pollutants. The environmental justice provisions of the CCA require Ecology to expand our ambient air monitoring in overburdened communities highly impacted by air pollution. The Quality Assurance Specialists will ensure the data we collect from these new monitoring efforts are accurate and reliable so the AQP can track the progress of air pollution reduction strategies over time.
Tele-work options for this position: This position will be eligible for up to an 80% tele-work schedule.
