The Environmental Science Division at the Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to model and analyze convective clouds and its interactions with environmental factors including aerosols and urbanization with field measurements and models across scales.
In this role you will lead model simulations of convective clouds and mesoscale convective systems at high-resolution with both regional and global models, evaluation of model simulations of clouds, aerosols, and aerosol-cloud interactions, and examination of how environmental factors such as anthropogenic aerosols and urbanization influence clouds, precipitation, and climate.
Anticipated responsibilities include performing model simulations at high resolutions, analyzing model results and observational datasets, incorporating model development, and publishing research results. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with scientists within a large team.
This appointment is for two years, renewable for up to three years pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. The preferred start date for the position is Jan 2024. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
Position Requirements
* Recent or soon-to-be completed PhD (typically within 0-3 years) in Atmospheric Science or Climate Science, or similar.
* Experience with cloud modeling across scales.
* Experience with the use and analysis of ARM cloud and aerosol observations.
* Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
