Job Description:

The Lab Manager provides oversight and support to laboratory and research
projects in the area of thermochronology. The Lab Manager will manage
operations of laboratories and procedures relating to mineral separations,
mineral picking, an ASI Alphachron noble gas mass spectrometer, and Rigaku
CTLABHX micro computed tomography instrument. The individual will train and
support students, postdocs, and visitors to the lab, and participate in lab
outreach and education.

Responsibilities include: instrument operation, scheduling and maintenance;
lab purchasing and related paperwork; sample preparation; data and metadata
analysis, quality control, and archival; training and oversight of student
research assistants (RAs) and other lab personnel; and ensuring compliance
with environmental health and safety guidelines.

Education and Experience

   - Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences or related field with 3 - 5 years of
   related work experience or the equivalent combination of education and work
   experience.  PhD in Geoscience strongly preferred.

Preferred:

   - Prior experience in geo-thermochronology, mineral separations, and/or
   micro computed tomography.
   - Experience operating analytical instrumentation.
   - Experience mentoring and working with diverse groups.

   - Ability to learn new techniques independently.
   - Strong communication and record-keeping skills.
   - Consistency in laboratory work, careful in avoiding contamination, and
   accurate in data generation.

   - Ability to interact well with a large number of students and visitors
   to the lab.
   - Ability to teach others.
   - Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and
   inclusive campus community.
