Postdoctoral position on Compound Climate Extremes and their Impacts
Uppsala University, Sweden
There is an opening for a postdoctoral position in my group in Uppsala
University. I am seeking a proactive researcher, able to work both
independently and as part of an interdisciplinary project team, and with a
strong drive to innovate and test new ideas. The *preferred start date is
January 2024, but there is flexibility for earlier or later dates*, and the
position is for 24 months. Do not hesitate to contact me (
gabriele.messori at geo.uu.se) should you have any questions.* Deadline for
applications is the 29th September.*
*Further details and application form here: *
https://www.jobb.uu.se/details/?positionId=653840&positionid=417122
Applications over email will not be accepted.
*The position*
The post-doc will work within the frame of H2020/Horizon Europe funding.
The position focuses on the predictability and impacts of weather extremes,
primarily in North America and Europe. There is considerable freedom to
implement different approaches, from machine-learning or data-driven
analyses to numerical modelling. The post-doc, if s/he so wishes, will also
have the opportunity to engage in teaching/supervising duties.
*The research group*
I coordinate a lively research group based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences
in Uppsala, which focuses on the dynamics of extreme climate events in the
mid and high latitudes and their interactions with other components of the
Earth System. We currently host four nationally funded research projects,
and four H2020/Horizon Europe projects. More information on our ongoing
research can be found at *https://gmessori.eu/ <https://gmessori.eu/>*.
*The department*
Uppsala University is a comprehensive, research-intensive university with a
strong international standing. The Department of Earth Sciences (
https://www.geo.uu.se/ <https://www.geo.uu.se/?languageId=1>) is one of the
most complete such academic departments in Europe. Our research focuses on
subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from
submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and
oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
