Description

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications to join our dynamic teaching faculty at the rank of Lecturer beginning August 1, 2023.  We seek a creative and inspiring educator to teach two courses each Fall and Spring semester, including GEOL 370: Earth’s Structure and Geophysics, GEOL 101: Dynamic Earth, and other GEOL courses depending on the needs of the department and the qualifications of the successful applicant, as well as accept service assignments and responsibilities within the Department. These could include directing and mentoring undergraduate students in research.

The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geology and Environmental Studies, providing a vibrant environment for engaging students and colleagues in diverse, collaborative research and teaching programs that span geology, environmental geosciences, and planetary geosciences. The salary for the nine-month position will be paid over twelve months, plus benefits. Summer term teaching is optional for additional pay. The initial appointment will be for a one-year term, with potential for annual renewal pending department funding and needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

The applicant must have 1) a M.S. or Ph.D. in the geosciences; 2) college-level teaching experience in the geosciences; and 4) a demonstrated interest in teaching using best practices for student success.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with at least one of the following additional qualifications: 1) demonstrated expertise in structural geology/tectonics/geophysics; 2) experience teaching in large introductory lecture in-person courses; 3) experience designing and implementing instructional material that reflect a student-centered learning approach; and 4) experience supervising and mentoring graduate teaching assistants.
