The Colorado College Department of Geology announces a one-course teaching
opportunity for a non-tenure-track visiting assistant professor or
instructor of geophysics. The course dates are January 22 - February 14,
2024. The Environmental Geophysics course is an upper level elective /
methods course, taught in the Block format used for all courses at Colorado
College. Blocks are 3.5 weeks in duration, allowing for immersive and
field-based teaching/learning, as faculty and students are involved in only
a single course at a time. More information about the one-course-at-a-time
format implemented at Colorado College can be found here:
https://www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/blockplan/
The position will involve teaching an introductory undergraduate
environmental geophysics course, to make use of the Department’s geophysics

arranged. Colorado College’s residential campus is located in Colorado
Springs, in a varied geologic, geographic and cultural landscape at the
base of Pikes Peak. The College’s Transportation Dept maintains a vehicle
fleet that is available for field-based courses, and the Department is
equipped for multi-day field trips with camping.
Duties will include: Developing and teaching the undergraduate
environmental geophysics course, that will provide introduction to
fundamentals, problem-based teaching/learning in the area of Colorado
Springs and southern Rocky Mountains region, and field implementation of
geophysics instrumentation. Selecting field localities for course projects,
in consultation with CC Geology Department members.
*Qualifications: *Applicants must have completed or be scheduled to
complete a PhD in geology/geosciences, with an emphasis in geophysics.
Experience with field data collection / instruction of undergraduates in
the use of field geophysical equipment is optimal. Must hold a US Drivers
