Drs. Chao-Yin Chen (Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine) and Anthony Wexler (Air Quality Research Center) at UC Davis and Dr. Jane Clougherty at Drexel University are seeking two post-doctoral fellows to work on a newly funded project to investigate the synergistic effects of social stress and traffic-related air pollution on cardiovascular health in a rat model. This project is to investigate 1) chronic variable stress as a modifier of subsequent traffic-related air pollution impacts on cardiovascular function and circulating biomarkers of cardiovascular disease risk and 2) impacts of traffic-related air pollution on subsequent acute stress response. Using telemetry recordings of blood pressure and ECG, cardiovascular parameters to be determined include baroreflex sensitivity and heart rate variability. Circulating biomarkers that will be determined include serum cytokines, C-reactive protein, markers of oxidative stress, and stress hormones. Traffic-related air pollution exposures will take place at the Caldecott tunnel near Oakland, California, about a 1.5-hour drive from Davis. UC Davis staff manage the tunnel exposure facility.
The postdocs will receive competitive salaries and benefits. The postdoc positions are open until filled. Start date is negotiable but preferably in 2023. Please send inquiries to Dr. Anthony Wexler (aswexler at ucdavis.edu<https://aqrc.ucdavis.edu/news/aswexler@ucdavis.edu>).
