Postdoctoral position in sub-seasonal prediction of convective weather at the University of Bern

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position. The project scientist will investigate the sub-seasonal to seasonal predictability of convective weather in central Europe. The goal is to assess the predictability of proxies for regular and severe convection and explore links to above normal sea surface temperatures over the Mediterranean. The project is funded by a private company for 12-months with the option for an extension and starts in the first half of 2023 but no later than May 2023.

 The project scientist will collaborate with Olivia Romppainen-Martius at the University of Bern, with Daniela Domeisen[1]<applewebdata://60FC6FC5-530C-4A2C-AC55-42B730398695#_ftn1> at the University of Lausanne. The project scientist will be hosted at the University of Bern in the Climate Impacts Research group[2]<applewebdata://60FC6FC5-530C-4A2C-AC55-42B730398695#_ftn2> and in the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change research[3]<applewebdata://60FC6FC5-530C-4A2C-AC55-42B730398695#_ftn3>.

We seek a scientist with research experience in meteorology, climatology and / or data analysis and with some background in statistical data analysis and interest in active collaborations with stakeholders. Applicants must have a PhD in meteorology, climate sciences, applied statistics or related subjects. Regardless of the background, the successful applicant will have an interactive personality, is willing to closely exchange across institutions, can carry out research in an interdisciplinary environment, and has a strong desire to disseminate results to both scientific and lay audiences. Fluency in English (written and spoken) and strong communication skills are required.
