Job Description and Duties
This position offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity to conduct complex and applied scientific studies on issues related to aquatic ecology in the San Francisco Estuary and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The incumbent is responsible for acting as a technical expert and lead for water quality, food web, and aquatic biological resource studies in the estuary to support adaptive management actions, mandated compliance monitoring programs, and associated special studies related to State Water Project operations, the California Department of Fish & Wildlife Incidental Take Permit, State Water Resources Control Board Water Right Decision 1641, and the Interagency Ecological Program (IEP). The individual is responsible for conducting studies and completing complex statistical analyses, including the synthesis of existing water quality and ecological datasets, to better understand drivers of biological trends. The incumbent will perform scientific collaboration and communication duties, which include reviewing DWR's Environmental Monitoring Program, writing peer-reviewed articles, and presenting findings at professional conferences.  The individual will work cooperatively as part of IEP and DWR Project Work Teams and will have fiscal and administrative responsibility tasks, such as developing and managing contracts.
