The Center for Ecosystem and Science and Society at Northern Arizona
University is searching for two Research Associates to work on Arctic and
boreal ecology in the field and lab. Associates will become integral
members of the Plant and Ecosystem Ecology Research (PEER) lab, an
inclusive, productive, and enthusiastic group of faculty, postdoctoral
researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students led by Regents
Professor Michelle Mack and Assistant Professor Xanthe Walker. They will
also be core staff members of the Bonanza Creek Longterm Ecological
Research Program, which is funded by NSF and the US Forest Service. *Position
1, laboratory manager*, will be primarily located in Flagstaff, AZ, and
will focus on laboratory analyses of plant and soil samples, development of
new analytical protocols, maintenance of lab safety, and coordination and
supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. *Position 2,* *field
project manager*, will be in Flagstaff, AZ, during the academic year but
will require extensive travel during the summer field season to Fairbanks,
AK, and other locations in the Arctic/boreal region. This position will
focus on management of multiple field projects, geospatial analyses,
maintenance of field safety protocols, and coordination and supervision of
graduate and undergraduate students.



*Minimum Qualifications*: Master’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g.,
Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Geography) and four to six years of research
support experience, including work in field and/or lab, OR a combination of
related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to
the above Minimum Requirements.



*Preferred Qualifications*: Experience designing, conducting, and
supervising field and/or lab work. Knowledge in statistical analyses of
ecological data. Position 1: Ability to complete and oversee laboratory
work related to processing soils and plants for biogeochemical, isotopic,
and molecular analyses. Position 2: Experience with geographical
information system software



*Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities*: Knowledge of principles and techniques of
plant and soil analyses in the field and lab. Knowledge of proper safety
and compliance practices related to the conduct of research. Technical
understanding and proficiency related to conducting relevant research
procedures. Balances competing priorities and ability to make decisions
regarding resource allocation. Organizes data and information and supports
analysis; may conduct independent analysis or review. Communicates
effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including
external parties. Promotes a diverse, inclusive and safe environment.



*Salary*: Range is $47k-68k per year. Annual salary commensurate with
candidate's qualifications and related experience.
