INTRODUCTION
The Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics (IDYST) of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment of the University of Lausanne is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Microbial Biogeochemistry to join the Soil Biogeochemistry Group (Prof. Dr. Marco Keiluweit).

JOB INFO
Expected start date in position : 01.01.2023 / to be agreed
Contract length : 2 years initially, renewable up to 5 years
Activity rate : 100%
Workplace : Lausanne Mouline (Geopolis building)

RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidates will join a strong and growing Soil Biogeochemistry Group studying the interactions of microbes, minerals, and organic matter in the face of climate change. The successful candidate will perform research under a newly-funded Swiss National Science Foundation grant investigating the dynamics of microbe-mineral-organic matter interactions in the rhizosphere, and their vulnerability to climatic drivers. Specifically, this project will address how microbially-mediated mineral transformations impact the fate of carbon and nitrogen in soils. This work will include laboratory-, growth chamber- and field-based experiments. The candidate will employ cutting-edge chemical and biological analyses, including novel microscopic techniques, -omics tools, and microsensors. The project involves close collaborations with other group members as well as a suite of international researchers across Europe and the US. The candidate is expected to assist in mentoring MSc and PhD students and contribute to the groups teaching in soil biogeochemistry. We encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS
To expand our Soil Biogeochemistry group, we are looking for someone with the following background:
	• Successfull candidates will have an excellent PhD in biogeosciences, geochemistry, plant and soil sciences, microbiology, or related field.
	• Knowledge of biogeochemical processes within soils is a requirement.
	• Training in lab experimentation with plants, microbes, and/or soil; basic geochemical/spectroscopic measurements; and associated data analysis skills are required.
	• Experience working with bioinformatics and/or imaging tools is a significant advantage.
	• Commitment to conducting research on soil biogeochemical processes regulating organic matter dynamics.
	• Excellent skills in written and oral English are required. Working knowledge of French is preferable but not necessary.
	• Well-honed interpersonal skills and an ability to work well in a multicultural team and department.
