Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Science
With a research focus on use/acquisition of Airborne Observations

The Department of Atmospheric Science<http://www.uwyo.edu/atsc/> at the University of Wyoming (UW) seeks to fill two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning August 2023. One of these two positions has a research focus that will contribute towards our excellence in observational atmospheric science. We seek a candidate who will develop a nationally-recognized research program and leverage a key facility in the department, the University of Wyoming King Air (UWKA) atmospheric research aircraft<https://www.uwyo.edu/atsc/uwka/>. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong record of publication and promise of external funding in areas that will advance research related to the aircraft program. All areas relevant to airborne atmospheric science will be considered, with special consideration given to candidates focusing on remote sensing, boundary-layer dynamics, and airborne instrument development. Note, previous airborne research experience is not a requirement. We welcome applications from those who plan to use airborne measurements to support or validate models or remotely sensed data, as long as airborne measurements represent a significant component of the science.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the graduate level. The Department of Atmospheric Science is a graduate-only program currently consisting of five faculty, 25 graduate students, and several talented research scientists, engineers and technicians; and is on a growth trajectory expecting several hires in the coming year. This position offers excellent opportunities to collaborate with other scientists and faculty in the department for use of the King Air aircraft, the ground-based mobile lab, and the substantial University of Wyoming allocation of the NCAR/Wyoming supercomputer. Faculty are expected to maintain a vibrant research group that contributes to the MS and PhD programs and to teach courses at the graduate level.

Minimum Qualifications
·       PhD in atmospheric science or other relevant discipline;
·       Record of scholarship appropriate for the rank of assistant professor;
·       Interest and/or expertise in the use of airborne measurements for atmospheric science;
·       Interest and/or expertise in teaching at the graduate level;
· Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Desired Qualifications
·       Interest and/or expertise with in situ or remotely sensed measurements of the atmosphere;
·       Interest in and potential for collaborating with faculty in the Department of Atmospheric Science;
·       Interest and/or experience in interdisciplinary research;
·       Interest and/or expertise in teaching at the undergraduate;
· Interest and/or expertise in measurement technology and instrumentation.

Required Materials
Applications must include a cover letter outlining your interest in the position, a curriculum vitae, contact information (email addresses and telephone numbers) for three persons who can serve as references, a research statement (3-5 pages) summarizing your prior contributions and your goals for developing a program at UW, a teaching statement (2-3 pages) summarizing past teaching and mentoring experiences and your goals for teaching and mentoring at UW, and a DEI statement (1 page) outlining past experiences and future commitments to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at UW.
