Postdoctoral Research Associate

The George Mason University, Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) in collaboration with the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory (ARL) are seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cooperative Institute of Satellite Earth System Studies (CISESS) to work with the Chemical Modeling & Emissions group at ARL in the NOAA Center for Weather & Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD.

The selected candidate will perform research related to improving the modeling and parameterizations of within-canopy vegetative processes to be incorporated into NOAA weather and air quality forecast models, including the use of multi-layer forest canopy models and parameterizations, and satellite observations of vegetation/land cover. The ideal candidate will have research experience in atmosphere-biosphere interactions, but also have some experience with atmospheric chemistry and air quality modeling using models such as CMAQ, WRF-Chem, GEOS-Chem, or other similar 3-D models. The selected candidate will be expected to publish results of their research in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals and make clear, professional presentations at major conferences, seminars, and other internal NOAA meetings.

Two-year position (beginning Winter 2022/2023) with possible extension or promotion, pending on performance and funding availability.

Requirements: Successfully completed a Doctoral Degree in meteorology, geosciences, atmospheric physics, atmospheric chemistry or a sub-field of physical geosciences.
