Postdoctoral Research Associate - Fire DSRA

George Mason University and the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory (ARL) are seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Cooperative Institute of Satellite Earth System Studies (CISESS) to work with the Chemical Modeling & Emissions group at ARL in the NOAA Center for Weather & Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD.

The successful candidate will perform research related to improving the modeling of fire emissions incorporated into NOAA weather and air quality forecast models, including multi day fire behavior and propagation, fire characterization and emissions speciation, and ensemble techniques. The ideal candidate will have experience in wildfire research and be familiar with atmospheric chemistry and air quality modeling using models such as CMAQ, WRF-Chem, GEOS-Chem, or other similar 3-D models and creating ensemble forecasts. The Research Associate will be expected to publish the results of their research in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals and make clear, professional presentations at major conferences, seminars, and other internal NOAA meetings.

The position is available for 2 years with funding available for additional time dependent on performance.

Requirements: Successfully completed a Doctoral Degree in meteorology, geosciences, atmospheric physics, or chemistry or a sub-field of physical geosciences.
