Position Function:

The Mississippi Water Resources Research Institute is seeking to hire a postdoctoral associate in connection with the US Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) National Sedimentation Laboratory and the Long Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) Network. This position is associated with LTAR research, including several field-scale experiments evaluating system-level benefits of management practices such as cover crops, minimal tillage, and crop rotations. This project aims to support long-term research of systems-level benefits of best management practices in the Mississippi Delta. The postdoctoral associate will support this project by managing data collection and experimental logistics, and analyzing data from several eddy-covariance (EC) towers located at farms across the Delta. The associate will also contribute to other aspects of the project depending on skills and expertise, and author or co-author peer reviewed journal articles.

Salary Grade:  For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Support various research efforts, including field operations; sample collection, processing, and analyses; data collection and storage, and equipment maintenance.
2. Lead and/or contribute to scientific writing, publishing, presentations, and statistical analyses.
Manage or assist in other research and field work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Ag and Biosystems Engineering, Environmental Science or Engineering, or related field with substantial knowledge of eddy-covariance systems. Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Desire and demonstrated ability to publish in top-tier scientific journals.
2. Comprehensive understanding of statistical design and analysis.
3. Proven success in managing eddy-covariance towers for data collection in scientific experiments.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

This position is based out of Oxford, Mississippi and will require frequent trips by vehicle to field sites in the Mississippi Delta. The position regularly involves lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals when in the field. Will also involve long hours sitting at a computer or while driving.
