Greetings,
Two full-time postdoc positions are available at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College to join the Keller research group<https://engineering.dartmouth.edu/community/faculty/klaus-keller>. The successful candidates will become part of a transdisciplinary research group in the area of climate risk management. The research group addresses two interrelated questions. First, how can we mechanistically understand past and potentially predict future changes in the Earth system? Second, how can we use this information to design sustainable, scientifically sound, technologically feasible, economically efficient, and ethically defensible risk management strategies? We analyze these questions through mission-oriented basic research covering a wide range of disciplines such as engineering, decision science, statistics, Earth sciences, economics, and philosophy. Current collaborative projects analyze, for example, the dynamics and impacts of deep decarbonization<https://healed.psu.edu/>, the design of coastal flood risk management strategies<https://coastalhub.org/>, and multisector dynamics<https://www.pches.psu.edu/>.
The successful candidates will co-lead research to improve the characterization and understanding of (i) uncertainties and (ii) system dynamics related to climate risks. Examples of the adopted research approaches are provided at this web-page<https://engineering.dartmouth.edu/community/faculty/klaus-keller> and this overview paper<http://www.annualreviews.org/eprint/IIAGUJ5NHVCBFVYDSFK5/full/10.1146/annurev-earth-080320-055847>. The candidates will ideally have strong quantitative backgrounds in relevant disciplines (e.g., applied math, operations research, statistics, engineering, or Earth sciences) and interests in collaborating with neighboring disciplines. The positions provide unique opportunities for research, education, outreach, decision support, and professional development. The successful candidates will enjoy ample opportunities to co-design their project portfolios and for transdisciplinary research collaborations. They will be mentored by a team of experts in relevant disciplines.
The positions are available immediately. Each initial appointment will be for a period of one year, with an excellent possibility of renewal for one or more additional years. To apply, please visit https://searchjobs.dartmouth.edu/postings/62891. For more information about the positions, please contact Prof. Klaus Keller (klaus.keller at dartmouth.edu<mailto:klaus.keller at dartmouth.edu>). Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. The salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience, and will comply with Dartmouth College guidelines. Successful completion of a background check is required prior to employment.
