Mission
Research engineering support for regional atmospheric chemistry modeling and links to climate
Activities
This is a research engineering position to support regional atmospheric chemistry modeling based at
IGE. Key responsibilities include:
● Installing and running WRF, WRF-Chem, and CHIMERE on multiple computing platforms.
● Documenting, developing, and standardizing pre-processing tools using open science
frameworks.
● Completing WRF, WRF-chem, and CHIMERE runs defined by scientific teams.
● Documenting, developing, and standardizing post processing tools used by multiple
researchers to deliver open and reproducible science.
● Creating visualizations of model output for the public and outreach purposes.
● Supporting air trajectory modeling based on WRF.
● Creating tutorials and instructional materials on regional modeling for students and
researchers.
● Managing and coordinating computing allocation proposals on multiple computing platforms.
● Managing wiki and code sharing tools (GitHub) internally and externally to deliver open and
reproducible science.
Skills
● Ph.D. in atmospheric science, aerosol science, climate sciences, or related field
● Knowledge about modeling aerosols and/or atmospheric chemistry
● Knowledge of the WRF model, WRF-Chem model, or CHIMERE model
● Experience with HPC and supercomputing environments
● Experience with Unix and Fortran
● Knowledge of NetCDF encoding and related data analysis tools (cdo, nco)
● Programming skill : scripting and visualization (e.g. bash, R, python, ncl)
● Excellent skills in written and spoken English
● Collaborative spirit and communication skill
● Ability to work in a fast paced, international, team-oriented environment
Working environment
This position is at the Institute of Environmental Geosciences (IGE), which is a public research
laboratory in Grenoble, France.
