Colleagues,

I am recruiting new PhD and MS students to join my group at Georgia Tech in 2023. Our graduate application deadline is January 1, 2023 and interested students should email me (karl.lang at eas.gatech.edu<mailto:karl.lang at eas.gatech.edu>) with a CV/resume and brief (<1 page) summary of research interests.

Our group uses sedimentary provenance and geo+thermochronology to study landscape exhumation and evolution. Current projects are focused on novel methods development and applications in the eastern Himalaya, southern Appalachians and lower Colorado River, though new field areas are welcome. Students will have access to equipment for fission-track, (U-Th)/He and (U-Th)/Pb dating as well as a wide range of surface science and microscopy techniques (e.g. Raman, SEM, TEM) through the Georgia Tech Materials Characterization Facility.

Prior experience with geo+thermochronology, mass spectrometry, ultra-high vacuum systems, computerized microscopy, image processing, and/or machine learning is a plus. Coding experience in python, Java, and/or Matlab is preferred.

You can learn more about the Georgia Tech School of Earth and Atmospheric Science here: https://eas.gatech.edu/graduate/prospective-graduate-students, and about the TECHtonics group here: www.gatechtonics.info<http://www.gatechtonics.info>. I am committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and equitable research group and I encourage students of all backgrounds to contact me, please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Apologies for cross-posting…

Karl Lang
