The Department of Environmental Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track professorial lecturer position, beginning August 29, 2022. The position has an initial 9-month term beginning August 29, 2022 with the possibility of renewal.

Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a related field granted by the position start date is preferred, but strong candidates with a master’s degree or A.B.D. will also be considered.
* Experience in, or strong potential for, teaching environmental science at the college level.
* Collegiality, good communication skills, and ability to work with other members of the department toward common goals

Duties
* Teach three courses per semester (up to three different preps). For the upcoming academic year, courses are likely to include a selection of the following, depending on the expertise of the candidate: introductory environmental science classes for majors and non-majors, Environmental Health, Environmental Geology, Geographic Information Systems, Pollution, and Energy.
* Participate in departmental and university-level service and governance by attending faculty meetings and serving on committees
* Support and advance diversity and inclusion within the department
* Develop new courses in areas of interest and expertise (most likely after the first year)
* Work with undergraduate and master’s students on research projects

Established in 2008, the Department of Environmental Science (https://www.american.edu/cas/environmental/) offers both undergraduate (BS, BA) and graduate degree (MS) programs. Environmental Science classes typically have enrollments of 20-48 students, although some classes may be larger or smaller than this.

Labs are taught by graduate TAs and not the responsibility of the professorial lecturer. All non-lab grading and office hours are the responsibility of the instructor of record, and TAs are generally not available except to teach labs. AU has a robust Center for Teaching, Research, and Learning (https://www.american.edu/ctrl/)    offering workshops, individual consultations, and other teaching support to all faculty (tenure and non-tenure-track).
