[ES_JOBS_NET] Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Weather Forecast and Control at Hirosaki University, Japan (Atsushi Okazaki)

OKAZAKI Atsushi atsushi.okazaki at hirosaki-u.ac.jp
Tue Jul 26 01:44:06 MDT 2022

Okazaki Lab. at Hirosaki University, Japan, seeks a postdoctoral researcher
to study weather forecasts with huge-ensemble data assimilation. The post
is funded by JST as part of a research project “Quantifying Weather
Controllability and Mitigatable Flood Damage Based on Ensemble Weather
Forecast" led by Prof. Shunji Kotsuki at Chiba University, under Moonshot
Research & Development Program Goal 8 (MS-G8). Detailed information about
the project and MS-G8 is available at
https://www.jst.go.jp/moonshot/en/program/goal8/.

The position is expected to be in-person at Hirosaki University, Aomori,
Japan. The successful applicant will perform huge-ensemble simulations with
a weather forecasting model and data assimilation on a high-performance
computer and investigate the predictability of past disastrous events. The
postdoc will test if we can control severe weather to minimize the damage
by adding very small perturbations in a model. The postdoc will be expected
to collaborate with other members of the project.

The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal
subject to satisfactory performance and available funding. The position
will remain open until filled. The preferred start date is Sep 2022.
