Postdoctoral Researcher in Multi-wavelength Studies of Emission Line Galaxies

Applications are now being accepted for a Postdoctoral Associate, to work on data analysis and physical interpretation of a diverse set of multiwavelength observations of galaxies with strong line emission. The work will be done at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and the position is funded through the Catholic University of America (CUA) and the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Sciences & Technology II (CRESST II<https://cresst2.umd.edu/>).

The work involves analysis and scientific interpretation of observations from HST, Chandra, SOFIA, and ground-based optical and radio observations of galaxies with strong line emission, ranging from Green Pea galaxies at low redshifts to Lyman alpha galaxies in the epoch of reionization. This is initially a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension for up to two more years depending on performance and funding availability.

Applicants should have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related discipline prior to starting the position. Candidates with a wide range of background in astronomy will be considered. Expertise in data analysis for the data sets mentioned above is valuable, and a proven track record of refereed publications is desirable.

The position will remain open until filled. Applications received by March 1, 2022, will receive full consideration. Applicants should provide a cover letter, a CV, a 1-2-page statement of research interests, a list of publications, and contact information for three references.

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. A start date as soon as possible can be arranged. Restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic may require that the successful candidate initially work remotely. All faculty and staff who are employed with CRESST II and CUA at NASA/GSFC are required to be vaccinated against COVID. Proof of full vaccination will be required before the start of employment. All application materials should be sent directly via email to Ms. Katherine McKee (katherine.s.mckee at nasa.gov<mailto:katherine.s.mckee at nasa.gov>).
