Urban Heat and Pollution Interactions – Research Assistants Needed
We are seeking three highly motivated, hard-working master’s students to work on a National Science Foundation grant “Patterns and Drivers of Intra-Urban Heat and Pollution Island Interactions” beginning in fall 2022. Students will work under the supervision of Drs. Lu Liang (Principal Investigator; https://sites.google.com/site/liang3mlab/home) and Alexandra Ponette-González (Co-Principal Investigator, https://ponettelab.cargo.site) in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of North Texas. A research assistantship and full tuition coverage is available for one year. Applicants are competitive for teaching assistantships to fund the second year of the program.
Research Assistantship Position 1
* Research: Dust events and heat extremes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
* Primary supervisor: Dr. Alexandra Ponette-González
* Required skills: experience with Excel, GIS, statistics, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, timeliness, demonstrated ability to complete projects
* Preferred skills: interest in data visualization
Research Assistantship Position 2
* Research: Fine-scale modeling of particulate matter distribution using low-cost sensor data and satellite imagery
* Primary supervisor: Dr. Lu Liang
* Required skills: Programming, Remote sensing
* Preferred skills: GIS, background / experience in statistics or machine learning
Research Assistantship Position 3
* Research: Spatial-temporal analysis of urban heat and urban pollution
* Primary supervisor: Dr. Lu Liang and Dr. Alexandra Ponette-González (co-advising)
* Required skills: GIS, Intro Programming
* Preferred skills: remote sensing / Digital image analysis, background / experience in statistics or machine learning
