We are looking for motivated, creative, independent students interested in research on aquatic chemistry and harmful algal blooms (HABs). Our project seeks to improve our understanding of Lake Erie nutrient dynamics and HABs through a combination of field in-situ measurements, laboratory experiments, satellite remote sensing, and numerical modeling.
A BS/MS in a relevant science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, earth science, limnology, oceanography, environmental science, computer science) is required. Students should be enthusiastic to work in a variety of settings, from fieldwork on a small research vessel to lab and computer-based research. Members from groups underrepresented in STEM are highly encouraged to apply. A competitive research stipend will be provided. Preference will be given to candidates with a passion for aquatic science, prior experience with chemical analyses, dedication to long days in the field and lab, and demonstrated proficiency in quantitative, writing and communication skills.
Cleveland State University is an urban campus serving a racially, culturally, and economically diverse student body. Applicants should submit a single PDF that includes (1) a cover letter outlining your research interests in aquatic science, research questions you are interested in pursuing as part of your graduate work and relevant experience/skills for the position; (2) your CV; (3) a copy of your unofficial transcripts; and (4) contact information for 2-3 professional references to Dr. Brice Grunert (b.grunert at csuohio.edu<mailto:b.grunert at csuohio.edu>) and Dr. Fasong Yuan (f.yuan06 at csuohio.edu<mailto:f.yuan06 at csuohio.edu>). Priority will be given to applications received by February 18, 2022, with an expected start date in Summer or Fall 2022. Only selected applicants will be asked to formally apply to Cleveland State’s graduate school (https://grad.engagecsu.com/).
