Multifunctional Nanosensor Testing Laboratory Associate
The Catholic University of America invites applications for a gas testing of multifunctional nanosensor platform lab technician as a part of the Planetary Environments Laboratory<https://science.gsfc.nasa.gov/solarsystem/planetaryenvironments/> at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The position consists of an appointment in Catholic University of America, funded by NASA through the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Sciences & Technology II<https://cresst2.umd.edu/> (CRESST II) cooperative agreement.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with laboratory techniques for in situ chemical analyses. Applicant should have experience operating and troubleshooting lab equipment such as preconcentration devices and gas detection equipment. Experience with LabView is desired but not required. Position responsibilities include the following: operation and routine maintenance of a custom-built gas testing setup, sample preparation, material characterization using spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, conducting gas testing experiments of various nanomaterial-based sensors and data analysis.
A bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, physical chemistry, physics, planetary science, or a closely related field is required. A master's degree in a related field is desirable. Good communication and laboratory documentation skills are required, as well as the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
The initial funding for this position will be for 2 years, with possible extension pending performance and funding. Applicants must be able to start on site at NASA/GSFC in Fall 2022.
