The McKenzie Environmental Engineering Research Group at Temple University has an open Postdoctoral Associate position to conduct research on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance interactions with organic matter and the impacts on transport. The objective of this National Science Foundation-sponsored project is to explore the impact of organic matter (OM) characteristics on PFAS-OM complexation and accumulation at solid-water and air-water interfaces. This project will make use of a varied OM and OM proxies to evaluate the interactions. PFAS analysis will include liquid and solid matrices, combining quantification of target analytes and suspect screening to explore a wider range of compounds. The position is ideal for a person interested in the intersection between the environmental systems and chemical characteristics with a focus on the physicochemical factors that influence interactions.

Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas will be the most likely to advance: environmental engineering, environmental chemistry, applied analytical chemistry. Desired experience for this position includes the following:

  * PhD in a relevant field and been in postdoc position for three years or less.
  * A record of scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  * Experience with conducting experimental research PFAS.
  * Experience with mechanistic study of sorption or complexation
  * Experience with high resolution mass spectrometry and interpretation of resultant data.
  * Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  * Ability to manage data sets and conduct statistical analyses.
  * Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  * Interest in mentoring graduate student and undergraduate researchers.
  * Interest in outreach to scientific and non-scientific communities.
Applicants should submit a cover letter (optional), a statement of research interests and experience (optional; 2 page max), a current CV (required; 3 page max), and contact information for three professional references (optional). Submit application components via the google form: https://forms.gle/Fyoqd7rqPjBeLroE7
**Preferred file naming convention: Last_first-file type.**

Philadelphia has been ranked among the top cities in which to reside or visit and the McKenzie Environmental Engineering Research Group is happy to be nestled in the city. The position involves substantial lab work, so the successful candidate must live in the Philadelphia area. Funding is available for 2+ years (see salary schedule<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgrad.temple.edu%2Fpostdoctoral-affairs%2Fsalary-schedule&data=04%7C01%7Cermckenzie%40temple.edu%7C6cd1429feea242ad414608d9e66e9582%7C716e81efb52244738e3110bd02ccf6e5%7C0%7C0%7C637794185954888389%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=zJFKIN2OVtiGT1Q7P0jlk0nwMfZ9wN4wzEvhQke6pug%3D&reserved=0>). The initial contract will be for one year, and renewal is contingent on satisfactory progress being made in year one. Renew of the applications will begin on September 1, 2022, and submissions will be review by Dr. Erica McKenzie on approximately a weekly basis thereafter. Finalists should be prepared to submit letters of reference and official transcripts. The ideal start date is January 1, 2023, through some flexibility can be accommodated.
