Dear Cryolist,
I’m looking to hire a motivated PhD student to work on the NSF-funded project ’A new approach to firn evolution using the Taylor Dome natural laboratory’. This multi-institution project aims to investigate the role of snow accumulation rates on the firn compaction process. This research will be based at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and will include laboratory work, model development, and the potential for fieldwork at Taylor Dome, Antarctica.
UNR is Nevada’s flagship institution, located in Reno, Nevada. It is sandwiched between the Sierra Nevada mountains to the west and the Great Basin Desert to the east, providing ample opportunity for hiking, camping, biking, skiing, and mountain climbing. Reno is only a 30-minute drive from Lake Tahoe, and a few hours’ drive from both San Francisco and Yosemite National Park.
If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact me (kkeegan at unr.edu<http://unr.edu/>
