Hello, we are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher
working on a project at the interface of deep learning and land surface
modelling:

As part of an interdisciplinary team with expertise in artificial
intelligence (McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal), biodiversity,
carbon cycle science, and land surface-atmosphere interactions (Université
de Montréal), the postdoc will explore, develop, and implement deep
learning surrogates for several process-based formulations in the Canadian
Land Surface Scheme including Biogeochemical Cycles (CLASSIC) calling for
improvement (e.g., vegetation phenology). Funded through the Institute for
Data Valorisation (IVADO), the two-year position is primarily based in
Montréal, Québec with regular research visits in Victoria, British
Columbia. Montréal is home to several research-intensive universities and
research clusters, including a vibrant artificial intelligence community
centered on Mila - Quebec AI Institute. Collectively, these world-renowned
institutions provide ample career development and collaboration
opportunities. A competitive salary for this position is based on the
candidate’s experience.
*Ideal applicants for all this postdoc position have *
1) a strong quantitative background obtained through a PhD (for Postdoc)
in computer science, mathematics, ecology, software engineering, ecology,
Earth system science, etc.,
2) in at least some aspects of the project (e.g., deep learning, land
surface modelling),
3) the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team
setting consisting of university and government researchers, and
4) excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and
5) a track record of timely completion of projects and publications.
