*NSF funded Ph.D. opportunities in marine geomicrobiology at Dauphin Island
Sea Lab/University of South Alabama*

Looking for motivated students to embark on research cruises to Ross Sea,
Antarctica, in addition to working on coastal shelf sediments. Potential
students should have a strong interest in molecular microbial ecology,
biogeochemistry, and bioinformatics. The position will be supported by two
recently funded grants, but departmental teaching assistantships and
fellowships are also available. The student will matriculate through the
USA School of Marine and Environmental Sciences (
https://www.southalabama.edu/colleges/artsandsci/marinesciences/) starting
Fall 2022, but could start sooner to prepare for the expeditions and field
season. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and an
ability to work both independently and collaboratively with groups from
diverse backgrounds. Interested candidates should contact Dr. Brandi Kiel
Reese (bkielreese at disl.org) and provide a statement of interest, CV, and
unofficial transcript. I strongly encourage students from diverse
backgrounds and experience levels to apply. Applications will be reviewed
starting October 15.
