Description
Winthrop University invites applicants for a tenure track position in Environmental Science/Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to join the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies beginning in August 2022. We seek candidates with a PhD in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, or a closely related discipline; ABD candidates may be considered and hired at the rank of Instructor until PhD is completed. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, interdisciplinary scholarship, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Teaching expectations include a variety of courses in environmental studies, geographic information systems (GIS) as well as other courses related to the candidate’s expertise.
We seek a broadly trained teacher-scholar-mentor interested in involving undergraduate students in various forms of experiential learning including research, internships, and community engagement. The candidate should also expect to advise undergraduate majors and to participate in other service to the university.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
* A Ph.D. in environmental science, environmental studies, or a closely related discipline or be ABD with degree completion within one year
* Ability to teach a variety of environmental courses including at the introductory level
* Ability to teach introductory courses in geographic information systems
* Clear plans for involving students in research or other experiential learning
* Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
* A strong commitment to teaching excellence, and a dedication to continued professional development, scholarship, and service
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at the department, college, university, and community levels
Preferred Qualifications
* Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate level courses
* A record of mentorship of students in research, community projects, or similar
* Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong personal ethics for mentorship of students, for working in a team-oriented environment, and for sparking an enthusiasm for environmental programs
* Experience establishing community relationships and promoting internship experiences for students
