*Position title:* Postdoctoral Position in Phosphorus Soil Biogeochemistry
and Legacy Phosphorus

*Essential Responsibilities: *

We seek an exceptional postdoctoral associate to conduct NSF-funded
independent research to study the speciation, transport, and transformation
of phosphorus in soil. This includes laboratory studies probing the
bioavailability and extractability of legacy phosphorus from different
soils. Activities may include conducting method development, wet chemistry,
and nuclear magnetic, infrared and X-ray spectroscopy. The project requires
close interaction with a group of distinguished intramural and extramural
collaborators working on field trials, laboratory and greenhouse
experiments, and stakeholder engagement. Related activities include
laboratory work; data collection at national laboratories; supervising and
mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; outreach to the community;
data analysis; report, manuscript, and proposal preparation; and
presentation of research at local, regional, and national meetings. The
position is funded through the newly established NSF Science and
Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability (STEPS) Center (
https://steps-center.org/), headquartered at NC State University.
Interested applicants should be available to start as soon as possible. The
position is supported through the winter of 2022, with the possibility of
renewal with satisfactory performance. More information about the NC State
Soil Biogeochemistry Laboratory group can be found at:
https://duckworth.wordpress.ncsu.edu/.

*Qualifications:*

A Ph.D. in soil science, chemistry, geochemistry, environmental
engineering, plant science, or a related discipline is required. Experience
in analytical methods and spectroscopy is preferred. The successful
candidate should have the demonstrated ability to design experiments and
conduct independent research. Excellent written and verbal communication
skills are essential. A strong publication record is highly desirable. *We
especially encourage women and members of underrepresented groups to serve
as undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers in
STEPS.*
