*Assistant Professor of Mineralogy, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology,
Tennessee Tech University*
The Department of Earth Sciences at Tennessee Tech University invites
applications for a full-time, tenure-track position (9 month contract) in
Mineralogy, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology beginning August 2022. A

Teaching expectations will include undergraduate and occasional
graduate-level courses, depending on background and expertise.
Undergraduate teaching will entail general-education lecture and laboratory
courses (online or in person) as well as upper-level geoscience courses in
mineralogy and igneous and metamorphic petrology. In addition, the
preferred candidate will be able to teach an additional course related to
volcanology, economic geology, field geology or an upper-level course in
the candidate’s specialty that complements the department’s geoscience
curriculum.
In addition in teaching, candidates are expected to advise undergraduate
senior thesis research projects. The successful candidate will be expected
to establish and sustain a research program involving both undergraduate
geoscience students as well as graduate students in the School of
Environmental Studies that complements existing research efforts in the
department while vigorously pursuing external support. The candidate also
will be expected to manage the new department X-ray diffraction laboratory
that houses an Empyrean X-ray diffractometer and to utilize the instrument
for teaching and research. The successful candidate will also be expected
to effectively participate in service activities at the department and
university level as well as professional service in the discipline.
Minimum Qualifications : Ph.D. from an accredited institution in
Geosciences or related discipline. A commitment to excellence in teaching,
research and service. Expertise in mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic
petrology and the ability to teach introductory general-education courses,
upper-level geoscience courses and advise undergraduate senior theses and
graduate students. Ability to manage and utilize the department X-ray
diffractometer for teaching and research.
