Where You Will Work:

Where You Will Work:

Climate and Global Dynamics Laboratory (CGD) is part of the National Center
for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) located in Boulder, CO. CGD's mission is to:

1. Discover the key processes in each component of the Earth's climate
system and the interactions among them;

2. Represent this understanding in models and thereby provide a basis for
prediction of climate; and

3. Apply this understanding and these models to scientific problems of
societal relevance.

What You Will Do:

This is a full-time position within the Atmospheric Modeling &
Predictability (AMP) Section of the Climate and Global Dynamics Laboratory
at NCAR. The position would assist with diagnostic development and support
for the AMP Section. AMP develops atmospheric models of climate and runs
earth system models. The position will help develop diagnostic code to
process and visualize model output for climate models.

*Associate Scientist Level I* – Skills and responsibilities are at a basic
level needed to carry out routine functions under close supervision. An
entry level position.

At the AS I level this position would write and modify python code to
generate visualizations, and occasionally run simulations in support of
goals for model development and needs for output.

*Associate Scientist Level II* – Skills and responsibilities are in
addition to the AS1 and include working more independently and capable of
more complex design and development (based on experience) to carry out the
typical responsibilities in a scientific project under the guidance of more
senior scientific staff.

At the AS II level this position would also contribute to the development
and maintenance of a community diagnostic framework and assist scientists
with development of the diagnostic code, and work with software engineers
to add features to the code, and may include working with the community
outside of NCAR on training and education for use of diagnostics.

Responsibilities:

*Associate Scientist I*

   - Run model simulations with standard configurations under direction of
   AMP scientists.
   - Run a diagnostic package for model evaluation that produces plots and
   evaluations of model simulations.
   - Add features, plots and observational data sets to the diagnostic
   package.
   - Work with scientists to develop specific analysis tools and scripts
   for advancement of model analysis.

*Associate Scientist II*

   - Run model simulations with standard configurations under direction of
   AMP scientists.
   - Run a diagnostic package for model evaluation that produces plots and
   evaluations of model simulations.
   - Add features, plots and observational data sets to the diagnostic
   package.
   - Work with scientists to develop specific analysis tools and scripts
   for advancement of model analysis.
   - Working with Software Engineers, add features to the diagnostic
   package and manage workflows.

What You Need:

environmental science, atmospheric science, or a related field.
   - Experience with data analysis and visualization using modern software
tools (e.g., the scientific python ecosystem).

*Associate Scientist Level II*

   - Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in earth system science,
environmental science, atmospheric science, or a related field
   - Experience with data analysis and visualization using modern software
tools (e.g., the scientific python ecosystem).
   - 2-3 years of relevant experience as an Associate Scientist I (or
equivalent position) with evidence of professional progress, or additional
education leading to an advanced degree. Experience or education must
involve scientific research pertinent to the position.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

*Associate Scientist Level I*

   - Demonstrated knowledge in physical sciences and quantitative methods.
   - Specialized knowledge of climate, atmospheric, and/or earth science.
