Assistant Professor of Ocean & Earth Sciences in Coastal Geoscience (Tenure Track)
The Department of Ocean and Earth Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) seeks candidates with research interests in coastal geoscience for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position having an anticipated start date of July 2022. Within the broad area of coastal geoscience, research interests can include any of the following: geomorphology, analysis or projections of sea level change and its impact on coastal systems, geochronology, geohazards, and/or geospatial analytics. We are particularly interested in candidates using novel and interdisciplinary approaches to tackle these research challenges. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally-funded research program, contribute to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentor graduate students, and contribute to ODU's interdisciplinary research activities focused on climate change and coastal dynamics, among them the Institute for Coastal Adaptation and Resilience<https://oduadaptationandresilience.org/>. The Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences<https://www.odu.edu/oeas> has 25 faculty members with strengths across the oceanographic and terrestrial geoscience disciplines.
Required Experience: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in ocean science, geoscience, or a related field, as well as postdoctoral experience. The ideal candidate will have a history of scholarly publications commensurate with their level of experience, knowledge of external funding opportunities, and demonstrated experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Excellence in oral and written communication is required.
Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in collection and analysis of observations of coastal zone processes across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales, experience with quantitative tools used to analyze observations, and the skills to convey coastal zone data collection and interpretation to non-specialists.
