*Laboratory Manager, Tennessee Tech University*

The Department of Earth Sciences at Tennessee Tech University invites
applications for a full-time (12 month contract) Laboratory Manager to
begin no later than June 1, 2022. The Laboratory Manager reports directly
to the Chair of Earth Sciences and prepares and monitors laboratory
activities in geoscience-related labs and oversees the Earth Sciences
computer labs. A detailed description of the Department of Earth Sciences

Essential Functions: Teach lower-division geoscience labs and supervise
student workers in introductory labs and Earth Science computer labs.
Assist in development of general education laboratories under the
supervision of full-time faculty. Prepare all mineral, rock and fossil
specimens for use in general education laboratories. Curate extensive
collection of minerals, rocks, fossils and maps. Order laboratory materials
and monitor equipment inventory and operation. Supervise students in
operation and use of laboratory equipment, materials and specimens. Work
with university IT staff to maintain and operate computer equipment and
software in the Earth Sciences department, including lab computers,
classroom teaching stations, research computers and the printing plotter.
Maintain the Earth Science Department website. Supervise student workers in
introductory laboratories and the Earth Science computer lab. Oversee
maintenance of equipment in the Earth Sciences rock processing laboratory
and microscope laboratories. Assist with field trip activities as needed,
to include driving students to off-campus activities associated with
courses offered by the department. Maintain an accurate inventory of
equipment. Prepare specimens and equipment for laboratory use. Prepare lab
supply bids. Communicate in an effective and appropriate manner with
diverse populations, the University community and the public. Perform other
job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in geosciences or related field
from an accredited institution. At least 18 graduate hours in geosciences
from an accredited institution. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience. Working knowledge
of geoscience software and GIS.
