The Department of Geological Sciences and the Environmental Sciences
Program at San Diego State University invite applications from associate or
full professor candidates to join the program as a tenured full professor,
either serving as incoming chair or expecting to serve as chair in coming
years. We encourage applications from established professionals across the
geosciences, particularly in the disciplinary areas of geomorphology,
neotectonics, mineralogy/petrology, geoinformatics, geodesy, geophysics,
and environmental sciences. In addition to offering undergraduate and
master degrees in Geological Sciences, the department coordinates an
Environmental Sciences undergraduate degree and partners with the UCSD
Scripps Institution of Oceanography in a joint doctoral program in
Earthquake Science and Applied Geophysics. The successful candidate will be
expected to maintain a vigorous, externally-funded research program that
actively engages undergraduate and graduate students and directly
contributes to the advancement of their discipline. Applicants should
articulate their vision for engaging in the department’s development,
sustainability, and leadership as the societal role of the geosciences
continues to rapidly evolve, including how their research, teaching, and
leadership would complement existing departmental strengths and establish
future directions.

discipline, (2) demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented
students and faculty within the discipline, (3) experience or demonstrated
commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (4)
experience or demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of
underrepresented populations and communities into research, (5) experience
in or demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and
challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an
underrepresented group, (6) experience in or demonstrated commitment to
research that engages underrepresented communities, (7) expertise or
demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural
communication and collaboration, and/or (8) research interests that
contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. Questions
